You may want to exclude specified tablespaces from a full database backup. CONFIGURE EXCLUDE FOR TABLESPACE command is used to exclude tablespace across RMAN sessions.
- Tablespaces contains temporary or test data that you do not need to backup.
- Tablespaces does not change often and you have different schedule for backup.
Exclude tablespaces cmosys and example from full database backup:
RMAN> CONFIGURE EXCLUDE FOR TABLESPACE cmosys;
RMAN> CONFIGURE EXCLUDE FOR TABLESPACE example;
If you run the BACKUP DATABASE command, then RMAN cmosys and example tablespace skips form full database backup and all other tablespaces will include in backup:
RMAN> BACKUP DATABASE;
If some tablespace are configured for exclusion, you can still back up the tablespaces by specifying NOEXCLUDE option in BACKUP command.
Backup full database and including cmosys and example tablespaces
RMAN> BACKUP DATABASE NOEXCLUDE;
Backup only cmosys and example tablespaces
RMAN> BACKUP TABLESPACE cmosys, example;
Disable exclusion for cmosys and example tablespaces:
RMAN> CONFIGURE EXCLUDE FOR TABLESPACE cmosys CLEAR;
RMAN> CONFIGURE EXCLUDE FOR TABLESPACE example CLEAR;
RMAN includes these tablespaces in future full database backup whenever you issue the BACKUP DATABASE command.
